Which film has left the strongest impression lately? Ask around, the answer is obvious: Sirāt. So it’s hardly surprising that the live adaptation imagined by Óliver Laxe and Kangding Ray is generating such excitement and anticipation. On the stage of L’Alhambra, Kangding Ray will unveil a format as original as it is exhilarating, pushing the immersive power of the cinematic and musical experience to its limits. Using a special montage created by Óliver Laxe featuring clips and outtakes from the film, the composer-DJ will mix his tracks in a club-style set. “As a filmmaker,” explains Óliver Laxe, “I try to create a knockout, a perceptual K.O.” Rarely has the dialogue between image and sound produced such overwhelming intensity. Far beyond a simple soundtrack, the score composed by Kangding Ray, a former architect turned master of dark, visceral techno, plays such a central role in the film that it becomes the magnetic force around which this road trip at the edge of the world revolves. The sound system of a tribal rave beneath the vertiginous cliffs of the Atlas Mountains becomes the gateway to a psychedelic odyssey through the Moroccan desert. Rumbling bass in the chest, burning sandstorms in the mind: the inner journey begins… with no guarantee of return.

Opening the evening, Kangding Ray will hand over the controls to London musician Jo Johnson, who first emerged as a guitarist in the punk band Huggy Bear before drifting towards more ambient, cinematic and meditative sonic territories.
