Le Sacre du printemps
Dance
What if The Rite of Spring became a manifesto for survival rather than a ritual of sacrifice? With remarkable force, Serbian choreographer Saša Asentić takes hold of this legendary masterpiece by bringing together disabled and non-disabled performers on stage. With his inclusive company Per.Art, he continues his exploration of European choreographic heritage, following earlier reinterpretations of Mary Wigman, Pina Bausch and Xavier Le Roy. This time, he confronts another towering monument.
Drawing from the historic versions by the Ballets Russes, Maurice Béjart and Pina Bausch, while incorporating the voices of disabled poets from Serbia, Iran, Ukraine and the United States, the seven performers overturn the original narrative. Here, there is no glorification of suffering or heroic sacrifice: the stage becomes a space of resistance, solidarity and collective transformation.
Driven by a deeply moving physical energy, this Rite reinvents the work as a cry for life, a political and profoundly human experience that unsettles our perceptions of bodies, norms and collective power. A performance that does not merely celebrate a classic, it overturns it.
