With HOW ROMANTIC, choreographer Katerina Andreou transforms the stage into a physical and emotional arena. Inspired by the dance marathons of the American Great Depression, the work throws the fourteen performers of Norwegian company Carte Blanche into a race with no finish line, where desire, exhaustion, power and the need for connection collide. Bodies cling to one another, wear down, challenge and resist, driven by raw energy and a hypnotic pulse. Somewhere between collective trance, biting irony and sheer overflow of life, Andreou stages our fascination with the spectacle of intimacy and performance. Dance becomes a space of struggle, survival and surrender, caught in a constant collision between chaos and control.
Born in Athens and now based in France, Katerina Andreou has established herself as one of the most unique voices on the European dance scene, developing a radical physical language shaped by ecstasy, rave culture, music and endurance. Winner of the ImPulsTanz award in 2016, she also shares a close connection with French-speaking Switzerland. Her work has been presented there several times, including at La Bâtie in 2024 with Bless this Mess, featuring dancers Mélissa Guex, Baptiste Cazaux and Lily Brieu Nguyen.
