Magic & Naked’s dreamy, diaphanous pop – somewhere between Tame Impala and the Allah-Las – proves as enigmatic as it is beguiling. Formed in Geneva in 2013, the band enjoyed immediate success, leading them to tour widely across Switzerland and Europe. While echoes of 1960s and ‘70s psychedelia are unmistakable, the members of Magic & Naked both embrace and yet resist these influences, making their music a matter of heart and sincerity rather than mere inheritance. After four years in hibernation, they return to the stage brimming with love, unveiling new tracks shrouded in mystery. Opening the bill, Zurich-based Palinstar will present her new album, Backtrain Places, and introduce her delightfully jet-lagged world. Playing with rhythmic shifts and alternating between clean and fuzzy guitars, the multi-instrumentalist shapes her songs as she pleases, with the freedom and boldness to explore her emotions and share them with her audience. Her sensual, slightly husky voice sits beautifully atop melodies that swing between dazzling simplicity and intriguing complexity. Thanks to her inventiveness, Palinstar pulls off the feat of marrying PJ Harvey’s haunting rock with Feist’s comforting folk. An absolute must-see.
