In Catholic tradition, a chosen few are said to experience the miracle of incorruptibility – their bodies remain untouched by decay after death, becoming holy relics. In today’s Western world, embalming has claimed that miracle for itself, turning it into big business. But do we really have a choice? What can we do with our remains? Is any of it truly ecological? Aurélia Lüscher sets out to investigate. Bringing her own mother on stage, the actress and ceramicist playfully steps into the realm of the dead, crafting a wry, tender treatise on the economics of scaled-back funerary practices. Her aim: to bring this ancient art of bodily transformation in line with ecological standards, to restore its meaning, and to re-enchant it.
