La Bâtie welcomes to Théâtre Pitoëff French/Palestinian singer and oud player Kamilya Jubran, a major figure on the Middle Eastern music scene. Transcending borders and eras, Jubran charts new territories, giving Arab music a new and perfectly contemporary resonance. With her music set to texts by tby herself and renowned Arab poets, who are as attached to the classical tradition as they are to modernism, she is a solid reference and a major source of influence for young artists on the experimental and alternative Arabic music scenes, both in the Middle East and internationally. Born in Galilee into a family of artists, Jubran joined the band Sabreen in the 1980s, whose music reflected the social, political, and historical realities of the time. In 2002, she moved to Europe and began fruitful collaborations with trumpeter Werner Hasler and bassist Sarah Murcia. Those collaborations led to greater experimentation with electronic sounds and improvisation.
