Whatever they say, assembling a shelf is never as simple as the manual suggests—just like building a relationship. In Pling-Klang, Mathieu Despoisse and Etienne Manceau play out a Swedish-sounding ping-pong performance, as the two circus artists become entangled in the tricky, collaborative construction of a shelf, while gently dismantling the codes of romantic partnership. What do two men talk about when their hands are busy tinkering? What do they build when they reflect on love? This lovingly layered piece, witty, awkward and vulnerable, is perfect whether you’re flying solo or snuggled up together.
