With Glottis, Flora Détraz showcases an unusual journey into the unfathomable depths of the human body. Starting point: the glottis, the part of the larynx where the vocal cords are located, offers the choreographer the possibility of exploring a variety of voices and sounds that aren’t linked to spoken language or to its cultural and social framework. This is something else. What’s more, the exercise produces states of consciousness akin to hypnosis. Based on these discoveries and visions, Détraz develops a dance show that combines mesmerising concert with cave-dwelling dance. Three figures of somnambulists, blind people and oracles light up the dark stage and probe an original, pre-historic or future world, in a fascinating polyphonic transformation of the bodies and the metamorphoses it engenders. Glottis is to be experienced as an animal and poetic adventure, an experience with mediumistic overtones that will open your eyes to unknown, intimate spaces.
