Dressed in a dark suit, hat screwed on his head, Erik Truffaz steps forward, takes out his trumpet and prepares to distil some sound poetry. But what type? With him, music has no genre, no boundaries and certainly no age. His instrument is like a master key that allows him to go through any door that opens onto the world of sound. Uncharted territories are an opportunity for him to put on his explorer’s outfit and let his brassy emotions flow in an exhilarating exercise. As an accomplished polymorph, Truffaz touches on everything: jazz, of course, but also rock, classical, rap and even drum’n’bass. But what brings him to La Bâtie, in the majestic setting of Fort l’Ecluse, where he’ll reconnect with his roots, sounds like a new challenge. With the help of his faithful sidekick, bassist Marcello Giuliani, and other musicians, he tackles the film soundtracks that rocked his childhood. Together, they revisit the best of the composers of the golden age of cinema, appropriating the themes of Michel Magne, Nino Rota, Philippe Sarde and Ennio Morricone, to redefine their contours and tell us other equally wonderful stories.
