The Ghosts are Returning

Theater

In disputes about the restitution of cultural property and human remains, one question is still unanswered: how will the spirits associated with these objects and remains be received once they are returned to their homeland? Investigating seven “pygmy skeletons” that a Swiss doctor brought back to Geneva from the Congo in the 1950s, the GROUP50:50 artist collective from the Congo, Switzerland, and Germany travelled to the equatorial forest to meet the nomadic Mbuti people. Together, the artists and locals created a ritual in which storytelling, Mbuti polyphonic singing, laments, and Congolese rumba accompany the seven, wandering spirits on their path towards peace. Don’t miss it!

Each performance is preceded by an introduction and a discussion will be held after the show

The show is accessible via audio description.
